  4.  WHUT IT WUZ WUZ WHUT? FOOTBALL?

  6.  So there we were late on a Sunday afternoon, peacefully
  7. vegetating in front of the TV screen, tuned to ESPN, when
  8. what to our wondering eyes should appear, but a miniature
  9. field and thirty-six miniature soccer players, BUT... a
  10. curious message insisted that the game was something called
  11. Australian Rules FOOTBALL.  Now, folks, we've known since
  12. the obscure dawn of antiquity what football is all about.
  13. We have heard the bard, Andy Griffith, and we have watched
  14. the erudite blatherings of the Cosell, and WE KNOW FOOTBALL.
  15. Only, now we're not so sure.  You see, in Australia, the very
  16. FIELD is shaped like a football; none of these squared-off
  17. corners, don't you see?  And the players, ALL of the players
  18. advance the ball by KICKING it; using their FEET, don't you
  19. know?  When was the last time you saw an NFL tackle actually
  20. KICK the ball?  And finally, there is blocking and tackling
  21. and punching and gouging and I don't know what-all, just as
  22. Andy described, and the players ARE NOT WEARING BODY-ARMOR!
  23. So there it is.  We here in America have been settling for a
  24. pale washed-out version of True Football all these years.
  25. Emigrate to Australia and you can find the REAL THING!
